Group B this week!
Hey there friends – it is with true sincerity when I say it this week: this is the last of the tomatoes! You’ll be getting the last of our colored up tom-toms along with a whole heap (up to 8 lbs) of green tomatoes. Great for frying, pickling, maybe there’s a relish out there? I can’t wait to hear all about what kind of awesome creations come from this share! Here’s what else you’ll have to work with:
- Braising Mix
- Lettuce Mix
- Lettuce Heads
- Mustard Greens
- Salad Turnips
- Green Bell Peppers
- Green Frying Peppers
- Butternut Squash
- Green Tomatoes
Holy cow – I can’t believe it’s mid-October, we still have tomatoes AND we’ve got a 17 item share this week. That’s some sort of crazy – but hey we’ll take it!
This week is off to a busy start – we harvested all of the remaining tomatoes today and have started taking out the plants, trellises, and posts. It’s almost as much work getting them out as it was putting them in! We’re also planning to start laying some compost down on the beds we’ll be planting into next season to lighten our work load when spring rolls around.
We’re seeing progress from our brassicas – the kohlrabi sizing up and the cabbages fighting to get those heads made before the season’s end!
The tomatoes and peppers still have an abundant amount of fruit on them but we’ve come to terms with the fact that they are not likely to color up much more in the remaining weeks of this month. We’ve made the call to take off the fruit and send it your way as is. This means you are getting lots of green tomatoes and peppers this week – both have their special way of tasting just right!
Intertwined with the work of this week, we are taking time to celebrate the season with a visit to Mohonk for a crew hike. The leaves are just looking miraculous the past few days – we only hope they hang on through the rain on Wednesday so we can take them in from the ridge on Thursday.
Speaking of celebrations, we had such an awesome time hanging out with you all last week during pick-up! We are so thankful for the kind words and snacks that were shared – we definitely have the best members in the Hudson Valley…probably in the state…maybe even the world? You all have made this year for us so fulfilling. THANK YOU.

A little note about this week’s GARDINER pick-up… CSA will be UNSTAFFED from 6:30 – 7pm as we will be celebrating the birthday of a close friend. Please proceed with pick-up as usual, we will be sure to have all veg stocked!
I hope you all have an amazing week- we’ll see you soon!
Thanks for being here!
