Group B this week!
Greetings dear sweet members!
What a week we had – taking advantage of the dry weather before the rain we got, we teamed up with Jenna from Four Winds to dig up our potatoes! So cool to see such an old piece of equipment at work – really getting the job done!
After the digger runs through, all we have to do is pick up the spuds, haul then out of the field, wash em up and get them into your CSA this week. Along with these other treats:
- Braising Mix
This week we are soaking in the last of the fruiting crops as Friday is said to hold our first frost. This means we are covering up our sensitive greens (like lettuce) and saying goodbye to those precious hot season treasures until next year. This time of year is really special – capturing the changing of the seasons right on your plates. For example, this week you can still enjoy a refreshing tomato and dill salad on that 80 degree day mid-week and be ready to hunker down with some hearty and creamy potato leek soup as the chilly weekend blows in.
These are the times when we remember to cherish and treasure a seasonal diet. I hope you all know how special, (sadly) rare, and important it is to understand the seasonality of the food you are consuming. In doing this, you’re getting closer to the earth, connecting with our planet in a way that teaches us patience, respect and understanding for the natural world and the way it works. Thank you all for being part of this community of eating, learning and sharing with the world around you.
Speaking of sharing food – I hope you can all make it to one of the CSA gatherings next week! USE THIS LINK TO RSVP: http://evite.me/6nwRajBtc4 The fellas and I will be hanging out with a pot of chili, some cornbread, and cider to share. Feel free to bring a bite and conversation to share – perhaps you can connect with some fellow members and we can all share some stories of the season.
Thanks for being here!
