Last week’s freshly hilled potatoes.
Hi all, Alli here.
Whew! It sure has been hot out there the past few days. I think summer wanted to announce its arrival loudly. While both the plants and the farmers are feeling the stress from it, the sunny and dry conditions are actually perfect for hoeing all of the fast-growing weeds that seem more than happy with this weather. The plan is to tackle as many of them as possible in the next few days, before the potential rain on Thursday (which we are looking forward to)!
Anna avoiding the heat and putting in the last of the tomato stakes by sunset.
The farm is certainly taking on a more summery look, with the tomato stakes in place, flowers beginning to appear, and blossoms covering our summer squash, cucumber, and potato plants. And I’m guessing we are only about a week or two away from some heartier items such as Napa cabbage, beets, and peas appearing in your shares.

As for this week, you’ll be receiving:
Lettuce (big heads of romaine!)
Spinach, Broccoli Raab, or Chinese Broccoli
Cilantro, Parsley, or Summer Savory
Radishes or Hakurei Turnips
Scapes are just too cool.
Many of you have probably heard me talking about my love affair with grilled vegetables, so it’s no surprise that I think these both sound amazing:
And because I love this farmer’s blog and am always sharing recipes from it, here’s another one I can’t wait to try:
I definitely think collards are a really underrated green, so I’m always happy to see good recipes for it, and this one just happens to combine collards with two of my favorite things: pasta and hakurei turnips!!
Enjoy Week 4, everyone!
Fall crops popping up in the greenhouse.
This speaks for itself……!!
Cucumbers will be here in no time!
I’ve grown to love the flowers we plant more each year, and it’s fun to add new ones like this!
