Hi all, Alli here. It feels so good to be back. I’ve missed all of you!
Bad news everyone. I heard it was going to snow for the next week straight. A lot.
Ha! I’m just kidding, of course. What would an April Fools’ Day blog post be without a silly joke? 😉
Seriously, though, it was a long, cold, and snowy winter. But signs of spring are slowly and surely beginning to show. The snow is almost all gone from the fields, so the soil can begin to thaw out and warm up as the sun (hopefully) shines on it a bit more each day. Alison and I have definitely been craving some sun, and I’m guessing it would be a safe bet to say you all feel the same!
Greenhouse work is so comforting throughout the late winter days of March, and seeding has been in full swing. Onions and the early season greens like kale, chard, and lettuce have been happily growing throughout March, and the warm-weather crops like peppers, eggplants, and tomatoes are joining their ranks as we inch toward the last frost date (we’re already dreaming of the warmer days ahead when these tiny seedlings will be ready to put in the ground!).
We are excited about some new crops and varieties we’ve added to our plan for this season, and we’re looking forward to taking all that we learned last year and putting it to good use in growing all these vegetables for you! There are still spots available in the CSA, so feel free to pass on the word to your friends and family. More info can be found on our sign-up page, or give us a call if you have any questions. And happy spring, everyone!
