Hello members and friends,
Chilly greetings from the farm! Last night and tonight were and will be the coldest yet on the farm, followed by at least a week of milder weather. This morning, as I walked through the fields, my boots crunched on the hard, frost heaved soil. Most of the plants were still wearing icy veils, and some plants suffered visible damage. It was the first truly cold, bitter-edged air I’ve felt this autumn. But, it looks like most everything we’re expecting to give out this week survived just fine. We covered some crops–the lettuce is under two layers of row cover to insulate them, and as of now, they looked healthy and snug. We hope everything will remain the same tomorrow, but if it gets super, super cold tonight, a few of the more delicate items on the harvest list might not make it. We’re optimistic that the share is going to be another good one, though.
A note on your Thanksgiving share! As of now, we think it would be ideal to get it to you on these dates: Garrison on Monday 11/25 and Gardiner on Tuesday 11/26. With this timing, you’ll have your veggies in time for cooking for Thanksgiving without having to store them for too long. However, if the weather starts to get extremely harsh, we think we will have to do the pickup the week before, either on your normal days or on the Thursday and Friday. We will let you know as time goes on. If you are unable to make your date, we will try to accommodate you.
