Week 1 – And liftoff!

Butterhead Beauty

Hello members and friends,

Welcome to Second Wind CSA’s 2013 season!  This week brings the first installment of your long-awaited veggies.  We’re very excited to be growing for you this season, and we’re feeling good about the progress out in the fields.  We’ve had to play some interesting balancing games between the recent cold snap and subsequent heat wave combined with pest activity, but it looks like everything will work out just fine.

As a quick reminder:

  • Pickup for Gardiner is Tuesday June 4th, at the farm, 158 Marabac Rd., in the white barn from 2:30 pm to 7:00 pm.
  • Pickup for Garrison is Wednesday June 5th, at the Winter Hill building, on the porch, at 20 Nazareth Way from 4 pm to 7 pm.

Below is what to expect in your first share!  Lots of greens signal the beginning of the CSA season, and truly nourish many of our appetites for the first, finest, freshest green things we can get our hands (and salad dressing) on after a long winter.  We hope you enjoy preparing these tender offerings of spring simply in salads and lightly sauteed or braised with garlic in a little butter or oil.  Please visit our recipe page to find a slew of tasty ideas.

This week’s share:

  • Broccoli Raab
  • Radishes
  • Spring Garlic
  • Arugula
  • Head Lettuce
  • Salad Mix
  • Kale
  • Spinach
  • Watercress

Again, welcome to the season and we’ll see you soon!
