This week marks the half-way point through the season! And what a great season it has been. The weather, with its ups and downs, has for the most part been fantastic, and we haven’t (knock on wood!) suffered any catastrophes that we couldn’t handle. As we move further past the summer solstice, the production season is shifting as well, and we are delightedly looking forward to distributing more autumnal goodies like potatoes, leeks, and winter squash. Our tomatoes, the pride and joy of the farm, are swinging into full gear – if you’re at any point feeling inundated, you can always think about preserving them – the dehydrator at our house runs almost 24/7 with the tomato leftovers we bring home, and yet we still eat the delicious dried treats almost as fast as we make them.
Today has been a special day, not only because we started sowing a number of fall crops (salad mix, beets, radishes) and transplanting ones we’ve started in the greenhouse (kohlrabi, cabbages, and broccoli), but it’s also Bryn’s birthday! So unfortunately we don’t have any recipes prepared, but we would like to encourage anyone who has a great recipe to send it in and we’ll post it next week!
This week, expect in your shares:
- Eggplant OR Peppers
- Cherry Tomatoes
- Tri-Color Beans
- Summer Squash or Cucumbers
And one final note before you go- we really appreciate all the feedback and comments that you all give us at distribution, and we really want to actively incorporate your suggestions into how the CSA is run – after all, it is your CSA. In the next week we are going to post a link for a quick survey so that we can give you the opportunity to give us feedback, and we can use that information in adjusting for the rest of the season. When we send the link out, please do take a minute to fill it out!
