Week 14

First off, I hope that you are all safe and sound after Irene. We are still here at Four Winds Farm and have experienced minimal damage compared to what our fellow farmers have just a few miles down the road. I weeded and thinned the fall crop of carrots all day yesterday and I cannot tell you how grateful I was to be able to get right back to work after so much rain and wind just hours before.

There are a few vegetables that I am not quite sure we will have for this distribution this week. The following list contains the items I know we will have, but there will probably be a couple more in your shares.

1 bunch chard

1 bunch carrots

green beans

tomatoes

onions

garlic

Here are some photos I took at the farm yesterday:

The cherry tomatoes fell over.

Carrots fresh from the field.

Erosion in a bed of baby beets.

Baby Red Cored Chantanay carrots, all clean and pretty.

My favorite Granat Chinese cabbages fell over--will they pop back up? It's likely that we will have some funky cabbages this fall.

This is the worst bit of erosion damage--but if you notice, there are still a lot of baby lettuce plants hanging on in there.

Beautiful eggplants--will they ever produce enough to distribute???

Some fallen Lacinato kale "palm trees."

We have an exciting announcement coming your way next week, so stay tuned! If I can get around to it, I will try to post some recipes this week–I know, promises promises! If you you do happen to have a question about item in the share, please ask me in person or send me an email. I am more than happy to give ideas to help you use up your veggies!
