Week 7

Howdy folks! Here is the produce list for this week:

1 bunch arugula

1 bunch chard

1 bunch dill

summer squash

fresh onions

pick-your-own flowers

So…get ready for summer squash and cucumbers! We have some impressive yields to share with you this week. Perhaps this would be a good week to make pickles? You can use the dill flowers to flavor them, then use the dill fronds to flavor a cucumber salad. There will be enough cucumbers for both!

Summer Squash Recipe Contest

We are putting forth our first Second Wind CSA recipe contest! We all know how the bounteous summer squash can become burdensome. To help keep this from happening to our dear CSA members and blog readers, we hope to inspire your squash dishes with a friendly competition. The top three recipes will be posted on this blog, to be prepared and judged by our readers. Please submit recipes to secondwindcsa@gmail.com. Photos also welcome.

Our beautiful summer squash varieties (from L to R): Sraight Neck, Costata Romanesca, Bennings Green Tint Patty Pan, Midnight Lightning, Yellow Crockneck, Ronde Nice, Dark Green

And now, some photos:

  1. Kindly tell me what this lovely pink is. Is it a vegtable, flower? I would love to grow it.

    1. Hi Frances,

That is strawflower. It is a wonderful addition to bouquets, and due to its hardy texture, it dries very well and keeps for potentially years!

Thanks for checking out our blog,
